Quick Summary: The Caribbean is your best pick if you want warm weather, beach time, and a stress-free all-inclusive experience. Europe is the right choice if you want culture, history, and a trip that feels like an adventure. Both are incredible honeymoon destinations, and the right one depends entirely on what kind of experience you want as a couple.
What Kind of Honeymoon Do You Actually Want?
Before you start comparing flight prices or scrolling resort photos, the most important conversation you can have with your partner is about what you actually want your honeymoon to feel like. Do you want to do absolutely nothing for a week? Or do you want to explore, eat your way through new cities, and come home with stories?
I ask every couple this question before we ever talk destinations, because the answer changes everything.

I had one couple ask me about a beach vacation, but the more we talked about how much they wanted to experience culture and how much they liked history it became clear how much more appropirate a difference kind of honeymoon would work better. One were they could still have a beach day here and there but could also explore Italy where history and culture collide.
The Caribbean and Europe are not competing options. They are two completely different honeymoon experiences, and once you know which experience fits you, the destination choice becomes easy.
The Case for a Caribbean Honeymoon
The Caribbean is the most popular honeymoon destination in the world for a reason. It delivers on the things most couples want most: warmth, beautiful water, good food, and a complete break from real life.
When you book an all-inclusive resort in Jamaica, St. Lucia, or Grenada, almost every decision is made for you. Your meals, drinks, entertainment, and activities are all included. You unpack once, you stay put, and the only thing you have to decide each day is whether you want a beach chair or a pool lounger.
For couples who have been planning a wedding for a year or more, that kind of effortless is exactly what they need.
I recently sent a couple to Sandals Dunn's River and they loved every minute of it. They talked about how good the food was and how much fun they had at the main pool. They also raved about the service and how amazing the staff was with everyone.
The Caribbean also tends to be more budget-friendly than Europe, especially when you factor in the all-inclusive pricing model. You know what you are spending before you leave home, which takes a lot of stress out of the trip.
The Caribbean is probably right for you if:
You want beach time as the centerpiece of your trip. You prefer a relaxed, low-planning itinerary. You want warm, predictable weather. You are working with a tighter budget or a shorter trip window. You want everything handled so you can just enjoy each other.
The Case for a European Honeymoon
A honeymoon in Europe is a different kind of experience entirely. It is active, sensory, and immersive. You are moving through cities, tasting wine in vineyards, watching the sun set over the Amalfi Coast, and building memories that feel like scenes from a movie.
Italy and Greece are my two most requested European honeymoon destinations, and both deliver something the Caribbean simply cannot: a sense of history and place that makes the trip feel larger than a vacation. When you are sitting at a table in Florence with a glass of Chianti and fresh pasta in front of you, the world feels very different.
One place I love to send couples who want to spend time in the Almafi Coast is Sorrento. I love the charm, the city center, and all the wonderful cafes and shops; plus there is an amazing art gallery called Sorrento Fine Art Gallery that I bought a painting from hanging in my house. The painting is still one of my favorites.
The tradeoff with Europe is that it requires more planning and more decision-making. You are booking flights, hotels, trains, and tours across multiple cities. The experience is richer, but the logistics are more complex. This is where having a travel advisor makes a significant difference.
Europe is probably right for you if:
You want culture, food, and history woven into your trip. You love exploring new cities on foot. You are flexible on weather and comfortable with some unpredictability. You want a trip that feels like an adventure. You are open to a longer trip or willing to invest more.
How Do the Two Compare Side by Side?
Here is a straightforward look at how the Caribbean and Europe stack up across the factors that matter most to honeymooners.

What About Budget?
Budget is usually the deciding factor for couples who are genuinely torn between the two options. A Caribbean all-inclusive honeymoon typically runs between $4,000 and $9,000 for a week depending on the resort tier, time of year, and what you add on. That number covers almost everything once you arrive.
A European honeymoon is a bigger investment. Between international flights, hotels across multiple cities, dining, and experiences, most couples spend $7,000 to $15,000 or more for a 10 to 14 day trip. The experience is broader and richer, but the cost reflects that.
One of the ways I help couples is by maxiumizing the budget. One couple wanted Europe but they were on a tight budget, due to having the contacts and knowledge of different places in Italy I suggested "off the beaten path" spots where they could soak up culture and do day trips. The trip was a honeymoon full of advneture and still within their budget.
What I always tell my clients is that the better question is not "what can we afford" but "what will we regret not doing." Both destinations can be planned at different budget levels, and part of my job is helping you find the version of either trip that actually fits your life.
So Which One Should You Choose?
Here is the simplest way to think about it.
Choose the Caribbean if you want to arrive, exhale, and have everything taken care of. You want warmth, water, and each other. You want the trip to feel effortless.
Choose Europe if you want your honeymoon to feel like the beginning of a lifetime of adventures together. You want to explore, eat well, and come home with stories you will still be telling in ten years.
And if you genuinely cannot decide? That is what I am here for. I have planned both, and I can help you figure out which one fits your relationship, your timeline, and your budget.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Caribbean or Europe better for a honeymoon?Neither is objectively better. The Caribbean is better for couples who want a relaxing beach-focused trip with minimal planning. Europe is better for couples who want culture, food, and exploration. Your honeymoon style determines the right answer.
What is the cheapest honeymoon destination, Caribbean or Europe? The Caribbean is generally more affordable, especially with an all-inclusive resort package that bundles meals, drinks, and activities into one price. European honeymoons involve more moving parts and typically cost more overall.
When is the best time to honeymoon in the Caribbean?December through July is ideal. The peak of hurricane season runs from August through October, and while resorts remain open, travel insurance and flexibility are especially important during those months.
When is the best time to honeymoon in Europe?May through June and September through October offer the best combination of good weather, manageable crowds, and value. July and August are peak season in most European destinations, which means higher prices and more tourists.
Do I need a travel advisor to plan a European honeymoon? You do not need one, but having one makes a significant difference on a complex multi-city trip. A good travel advisor handles the logistics, knows which hotels and experiences are actually worth the price, and is your advocate if anything goes wrong.
