Frequently asked questions
Alexa Young, Product Manager

-
Do I need a passport?
-
Koningsdam departs Vancouver and requires a valid passport. For the Seattle roundtrips, a passport is strongly recommended; Amber will confirm the current requirements at booking.
-
-
Is Alaska good for first-time cruisers?
-
Yes. These itineraries are port-rich, easy to reach, and pair dramatic scenery with the relaxed service Holland America and Princess are known for.
-
-
Can I bring my kids?
-
Absolutely. Alaska is wonderfully family friendly. Third- and fourth-guest pricing varies, so request a quote for your exact family.
-
-
What’s included?
-
Your stateroom, main dining, entertainment, and the Glacier Bay ranger program on the Holland America sailings. Excursions, beverages, specialty dining, and gratuities are additional.
-
-
What if I need to cancel?
-
Each cruise line’s cancellation schedule applies. Amber will review it before your deposit and can also quote travel protection.
-
-
What should I pack for an Alaska cruise?
-
Pack light layers, a waterproof outer layer, comfortable water-resistant shoes, and a small day bag. Add a warm hat and gloves for glacier viewing, plus a few lighter pieces for surprisingly mild afternoons.
-
-
Is a balcony worth it for Alaska?
-
A balcony is wonderful for private scenery and easy wildlife watching, but it is not essential. Oceanview and inside stateroom guests can enjoy the same landscapes from open decks and observation lounges. Amber can help you decide where the upgrade adds the most value.
-
-
Will I get seasick?
-
Many Inside Passage days are sheltered, but open-water portions can still have motion. Choose a lower, more central stateroom if you are sensitive, and ask your medical provider which prevention option is appropriate for you.
-
-
Should I book Alaska excursions early?
-
Yes—especially whale watching, scenic rail journeys, flightseeing, and small-group wildlife tours. Popular departures can fill months ahead, although Amber can also help compare cruise-line and reputable independent options.
-
-
Are wildlife sightings guaranteed?
-
Aaska’s wildlife is truly wild. Season, weather, location, and luck all matter. A specialized local tour can improve your chances, but no responsible guide can promise a particular animal or encounter.
